Elementary (K-5) Daily Building Substitute
Description

The substitute will report to the assigned building on school days where they will be directed to their assignment for the day. The position requires working in different classrooms at various grade levels within the assigned school, providing meaningful instruction, and maximizing the learning experience for all students. The substitute may be assigned to a different building based on district needs on any given day.  The substitute may be assigned to additional duties to assist within the learning environment—for example, tutoring, test proctor, in-school detention/suspension, and lunch/recess duty.  

Permanent building substitutes will report to work daily without waiting to be called and paid accordingly. This position does not qualify for long-term pay. Permanent building subs will be employed through EDUStaff and can be considered for long-term positions.

REPORTS TO:  Elementary School Principal

COMPENSATION: $125/Day (Paid through EDUStaff)

This is a Non-Union - At-Will Position

Responsibilities
  1. Participates in professional development when assigned by building principal 
  2. Teaches district-approved curriculum, follows teacher lesson plans and instructions when subbing in classrooms
  3. Helps create a positive, engaging environment conducive to learning and appropriately responds to the maturity level and interest of the students.
  4. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of school behavior.  Proactively teaches appropriate behavior and expectations. 
  5.  Keep in confidence all personal, student, or personnel records and information. 
  6.  Adheres to district and school rules and procedures. 
  7.  Conducts behavior to demonstrate collegiality and professionalism. 
  8.  Mandated Reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect. 
  9.  Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position. 
  10.  Familiar with PBIS 
  11.  Ability to tutor students and provide extra assistance when needed 
  12.  Show an interest in after-school activities.
  13.  Willing to be invested in the lives of the students at McBain Schools
  14.  Other duties as assigned by the Administration  
Qualifications
  1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, OR
  2. Recent Student Teacher Graduate, OR
  3. A Bachelor’s Degree, OR
  4. 60 credit hours of university coursework from an accredited university
  5. Ability to facilitate student learning, growth, and achievement
  6. Ability to adapt to fluctuating assignments across multiple schools
  7. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function
